Another post of the week

So I did a video post yesterday. Mostly, it''s me babbling, but there's a lot of babbling in there about the books and such. That's rather important I'd guess.

That's a lot of what's going on now: writing and editing. I'm probably going to be trying to do more video blogs (vlogs is apparently the word, though it sounds like something that involves whips and chains) now that I have the hard drive upgraded and such. I still need to upgrade the memory on my laptop, but that's a fight for another day.

In fundraising news, the latest attempt failed as well, so I gave up and started shopping used. I managed to get an iMac G5 (a PowerPC, not an Intel, which is quite all right) for what I had of my own money, even though now it means I'm very broke. Well, not very broke -- I can afford to eat better than ramen or mac and cheese -- but not exactly as comfortable as I'd like.

Hopefully copies should be shipped out now for Amaranth, at least from the Cacoethes site itself. Regarding Amazon, I'm not sure. It's finally back in stock, but it says it would be 3 to 5 weeks before it would ship. That's not a lot better. This is so frustrating!

...at the rate people (and in some cases, I use that word only because I assume they are indeed homo sapien) are frustrating me, I'm going to have to make an icon to use that reads: "The world is a mess, and I just need to rule it." Of course, though, then I'd need to find out how to create a secret lair; that's apparently a necessary property.

But yeah, that's about it. Ciao, my lovelies!

M-Day

It's about 6 days till we move (Saturday) -- and I think we're already running behind. We ran out of tape yesterday and couldn't find any to fit our two tape dispensers. However, we did go blow some of my money: $56 for medicine, $18 for lunch, and another $38 for lunches for the week, as well as cold medicine and yogurt. And I still need to float a loan to [info]katsuko so she doesn't overdraft on her doctor's visit tomorrow.

$25,300 a year doesn't cover all this...

Okay, enough whinging about money. I'm not sticking up a PayPal donation link here like I did on my LJ. That would be bad...

I would feel better, though, if Seven Seas Manga ever paid me for my last translation job for them -- back in fucking FEBRUARY. I'm getting "do another translation for us" emails -- and yet I still haven't been paid for the last one.

There's also 5 days left in JulNoWriMo. Yes, in the midst of all this packing -- and the first round of editing on Amaranth, I've also written about 43,000 words on Verdant. I'd say I'm about 6500 words from done. If I have another couple of nights like I did last night and the night before (2200 and 2500 respectively), I just might make it -- and maybe even have a night in there where I can get a normal amount of sleep before the move. I tell you: if I get my 50,000 words by the 30th, then I'll crash at about 8:00 on the 31st.

The plan is for Mum to come down on the 1st and help us with any last minute packing and, once we get the new key, maybe start moving some of the boxes over there. I'm probably gonna catch a wee bit of flak over how messy the place is. We've been letting clean slide while we got stuff packed. Speaking of cleaning, after the movers come (sometime between 10-6 on Saturday), we're going to do our cleaning of the old place on Sunday, 03 August, so that we can hand in our keys on Monday, 04 August.

Hopefully somewhere between 04 August and Wednesday, 06 August, my father and grandmother will arrive with the washer & dryer. Having to buy a new set is not on my fun time list of things I've always wanted to do. I'm also going to give them these two blue lamps to take back. I found some I like a lot better, though these were good for yard sale cheapies.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm tired of being mismatched all over the place. I want a place that looks nice. For this I'm going to buy new slipcovers for the loveseat and the recliner and new throw pillows for the loveseat. I'm getting lamps that match everything else, color-wise. And stuff like that.

And now for back to work.

Dear world

Dear world,

Yes, I know you like pissing down on me. It seems to be among your favorite pastimes. Yes, you are making an art out of it.

But did you have to go after my computer, man? I mean, I just got the thing less than 2 months ago. I guess I just answered my own question. Of course. I sell the G3 to [info]katsuko, so it's time for you to kill the G4. Of fucking course.

So you went with the logical iBook issue and killed the logic board. That was an easy cop out.

But of course, you chose your timing well. SquareTrade's website decided to quit accepting my password, so I had to call that in. They ask if I'm having any problems with one of the products while I'm on the line, and I said yes. And I found out that the fine print reads that if it breaks within 60 days, they don't cover it. I was 4 days short of my 60 days being up and the warranty going into effect. See, this is how you like to fuck with me.

So, of course, because it's been nearly 60 days, I'm out of the 45 day range that PayPal allows for filing a dispute. So pretty much I'm in the seller's hands for repairs/refunds/replacing, and somehow I get the feeling I'm not going to get any help there.

So, yes, this means I'm out over $600 for the iBook and $70 for the ultimately useless warranty.

Here's a big "Fuck you, world" and a "piss off". I would say I'm taking my toys and going home, but hey, you ate my toy.

No love,
Apollymi

Verdict

So the verdict on the previous post is this:

Having more than one account does indeed solve the login issue. Clearing all the cookies from my cache does clear up the site scheme problem. Those two things are good and fixed. Hurray!!!

However, the tag problem does not resolve itself. On the Edit Tags page, all tags still have to be manually typed in, instead of being able to click on them on the list and have them select and save. Trying to do this leaves no tags selected. Tags must be manually typed in.

On the other hand, I do now have my back-up journals transferred over here now.
[info]symfora - For job applications and moving news (always Friends Locked)
[info]katherinebell - For writing and publishing news (will probably always be Public)
[info]hekate - Not sure what this will be for, but it was free and I snagged it (no idea on visibility status yet)

Symfora is the only one with content (ported over from LiveJournal), but the others should have something on them soon.

What a pain

This is turning into a right pain. At least the Permanent Accounts were fairly cheap.

The long and short of it is, InsaneJournal keeps losing information. I can't save my password, because if I do, then it'll default to this weird entry style, where I have to post things privately, then go back and edit the entry to how it's supposed to be. Sucks if I want to post to a comm. So I can't have Firefox save my password. ~.~

The tags will not selected from their drop down menu on the Edit Tags page. Each tag has to be typed in manually.

But the one that takes the cake is that my site scheme keeps changing from WorkSafe Sidebar to New Tweak.

I'm going to try completely clearing out my cookies and see if that will help. Here's hoping.

(And apparently another fix for the log-in issue is to create a second account. The possibilities of porting Symfora and Antania over here is worth considering.)

I still love IJ, though.
